For »Framework 4: across the lines« insitu collective invited curator Tina Sauerländer to take over their former location on Kurfürstenstr. The exhibition focuses on an unusual bond: for a certain period in their careers the artists Jennifer Oellerich and Prajakta Potnis developed almost the same works without knowing about each other – one living in Berlin and the other based in Mumbai, India.
The exhibition brings together their works that deal with the variable, unfixed or ephemeral states of divergent lines. Since 2011, both artists have been exchanging emails and met for the first time some months before the show in Berlin. The exhibition explores the development of similarities and differences in the works of the two artists who both worked with walls and watermarks at the same time in different parts of the world.
Walls surround or separate space. They divide apartments, cities and countries. Walls can be hermetic boundaries, but they could also be porous, permeable or even invisible. And they change over time. Walls could be zones or membranes of transient passage telling us about our environment and our history. Interaction between both sides make boundaries blur and shift, just like a horizon line in a far away misty landscape. The horizon line marks the border between earth and sky. It symbolizes utopian dreams and human desire to overcome boundaries of perception and knowledge. The horizon line marks the difference between the abstract and a concrete spatial perspective. It is conceived as an ever-changing border depending on the perspective of the viewer.
»Framework 4: across the lines« is part of insitu collective's Cycle II, a series of exhibitions on the topic of ‘relationships, networks and connections' in which insitu collective established a series of formats or 'frameworks' for invited artists and curators to respond to.
